Welcome to Shout!
Shout is a quarterly newsletter published in Alcossebre for the
English residents and the many visitors who make the area either
their second home or a favourite holiday destination.
Alcossebre is a growing resort on the Costa Azahar, mid way between
Valencia in the south and Barcelona in the north. Although there are
only about 600 English residents registered as permanently living in
the area, there are many more who spend a considerable amount of
time here and add to the social life of the town. Alcossebre is a
truly cosmopolitan place with a number of other Europeans enjoying
what it has to offer.
The natural assets of the area are the great attraction: beautiful
beaches, pleasant swimming, the Sierra D’Irta natural park, the
protected wetlands in nearby Torrenostra and an equable climate. If
you care to journey inland a little way you will discover amazing
views, historic towns such as Morella and the true heart of Spain.
In Alcossebre, there are local bars and restaurants offering a
variety of cuisines from the famous Valencian paella to Chinese and
Indian. Local fiestas are plentiful and colourful and there are
concert halls in nearby Peñiscola and Castellón,
there are a number of social and sporting
groups. Golf is popular, of course, with 2 courses nearby and new
ones in the planning stage. There are tennis courts , a new bowls
centre and opportunities for badminton in neighbouring Alcala.
The
local English choir gives 2 concerts a year and there is a lively
drama group, the Alcossebre Players. Many of these events donate
money to local and national charities and in nearby Vinarós there is
a large dog rescue centre where many English residents give
practical and financial help and of course adopt dogs, Walkers also
have plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside
with organized activities from October to May.
There is a thriving English speaking church congregation which meets
every Sunday at midday in the local St Christopher’s church and
enjoys a good relationship with the local clergy.
And then of course…there is Shout!!!!
